What is Swara?

Swara is a Sanskrit word that connotes simultaneously a breath, a vowel, the sound of a musical note corresponding to its name, and the successive steps of the octave or saptaka. More comprehensively, it is the ancient Indian concept about the complete dimension of musical pitch.

In this blog, we are going to look how a swaram in a certain carnatic raaga travel (or) rendered to bring the essence of particular raaga. Usually this is presented by Artists while singing a song, usually before the start of the song.


We will go through each Raaga and understand basic swaras that can be recited to introduce a Raagam and Song in a concert.
